Welcome to Lucca
Lucca surprises, fascinates, intrigues; you can breathe in the medieval atmosphere in one of Tuscany’s oldest cities. The journey inside Lucca is a leap into the past, like entering an ancient medieval village designed by the marvellous and perfectly preserved high walls, to be explored on foot or by bicycle. A province capital with 90,000 inhabitants, Lucca is a city of Roman foundation and a purely medieval layout, as the walls of its splendid historic centre still testify. Getting lost in Lucca will reveal churches in every corner, medieval and Renaissance palaces, early 20th-century Art Nouveau signs in many small shops in the city centre and ancient bakeries where you can taste the typical buccellato. Limiting yourself to the historical centre would be a pity, however, because this city hosts several important cultural events throughout the year and beyond the Walls we find the beauty of the surroundings enclosed in the so-called Lucchesia with its Ville Lucchesi and important residences that are also accessible for visits, through a specially designed itinerary.
A little piece of articulated Tuscany with a thousand delicacies: the territory of the Wine and Oil Route.
